Arizona Natural Chaparral (Larrea tridentata) - The most successful plant in the deserts of the Western Hemisphere, the benefits of chaparral are evidenced by long traditional use by Native American tribes. Considered a panacea by many cultures, larrea was used to treat a wide range of conditions, including intestinal, skin, and lung conditions. Also known as creosote, this hardy desert shrub dominates its environment and can be cloned to live for thousands of years. NDGA (nordihydroguaiaretic acid) is the major metabolite of chaparral and the focus of many clinical trials due to its unique approach to some outbreak disorders such as HSV-1, HSV-2, HIV, and some tumors. Its a novel approach because standard treatments only seek to reduce the period of the outbreak after it has started.
