Fill enema bulb with warm water or physician-recommended enema solution. Insert enema pipe into bulb making sure the open-ended nozzle is upright. Apply lubricating jelly to the enema pipe. Expel air from the pipe by squeezing the bulb. Positions: (A) To use in the bathtub, recline in the tub with knees drawn up or to the side. (B) To use on the toilet, sit on the toilet and lean forward slightly. While maintaining one of the positions indicated, insert a lubricated enema pipe into the rectum and squeeze the bulb slowly and gently. If resistance occurs, pause momentarily and gently continue. Note: If bowels are not loosened, repeat in 15-20 minutes. An enema is not always expelled immediately. Retention enema - Follow your physicians instructions. Cleaning and storage: Separate the enema pipe from the bulb. Wash both parts thoroughly in warm soapy water. Rinse bulb and pipe several times, squeeze out excess water, and air dry. Store in a cool dry place.
