Liquorice and Squill belong to a group of medicines known as expectorants. They help loosen phlegm in people with chesty coughs by coughing it up. Liquorice is also a demulcent, which means that it soothes the throat. The other active ingredient is menthol, which helps to relieve congestion and gives a lovely fresh sensation. It also acts to relieve congestion associated with chesty coughs and bronchitis.
